The World's Longest Lemonade Stand!

An unprecedented thing happened this weekend, we were actually in the right place at the right time. The people of Beverly Hills, MI (home to Amy's Mummy and Daddy) successfully broke the Guinness Book of World Records' longest lemonade stand record with a whopping 325 lemonade stands! The place was packed and the stands wound like a snake through the park in both directions from the entrance. Lots of delicious lemonade and snacks, our favorite being the Astro-Nade stand because of the frozen blueberry asteroids! Check out the pics...

Although we didn't get to try it, I bet the lemonade at this stand was as addicting as the game.

All proceeds benefited the Beverly Hills school district.

The Mitten State Flea Market Extravaganza Weekend!

For those of you new to "junking" here's a quick tip, go to flea markets! We recently dropped by 2 local FM's in the thumb of Michigan and walked out with a cache of goodies. There were quite a few stands selling your everyday junk (which Amy and I concluded was leftover coupon cutter surplus) but there were still plenty of stands with unique "found" items for us to dig through.

Check out the finds below!

Lots of vintage doll clothes stashed in a case with 4 dolls for $5! Included 1 original Barbie skirt from 1959.

A picture of the Barbie case and one of the dolls (a "pepper" doll by the ideal doll corp from 1964).

Another Barbie case Amy picked up that had a hidden stash of 4 necklaces (3 were nothing special, but one was 12k Gold Fill).

I picked up a pair of antique 12k golf fill glasses with case for $3.

I was tempted to pick up a an antique German book from the 1700's for $35 but the condition of it turned me off to it. There were a few other finds here and there that we didn't mention but we ended up spending under $20 for at least $100 in goodies.

So yes, flea markets, great place to get vintage and antique finds for cheap. If you're not sure if you have any in your area you can do a quick google search or check out craigslist. They are usually pretty easy to find.

Puppies and Cheeseburgers

This weekend we went to visit with Kurtis' family in Cass City, MI. When we got there we were greeted by PUPPIES! The animals are always so much fun and Bandit (the resident male sheltie) was sporting a funny new haircut. My favorite cat (aside from Olive of course!) was hanging out on the deck trying to avoid all of the rain. This weekend was the Cheeseburger Festival in Caseville so Kurtis and I drove up there to check it out... my goals for the summer include eating an elephant ear, drinking fair lemonade and playing BINGO so I was excited to try to meet some of those goals. Here are some photos from the weekend:

One little sheltie puppy amongst all of the labs.

There were yellow and white labs (I thought the white were the cutest!)

This would be my second cat, if I could have a second cat.

Bandit looks like a puppy with his hair like this!

A whole festival for cheeseburgers?!? It was so busy!

Photobucket

Oh yeah! 2/3 goals met! There was no bingo though and we went to a cheeseburger festival and ate zero cheeseburgers! Oh well!

Nuclear Reactor: Now Available in Your Garage!

There has been a lot of talk recently about the safety of nuclear reactors.  The Fukushima meltdowns in Japan, although terrible, are very rare occurrences (it took a 9.0 earthquake and a 15 meter tsunami to cause the meltdowns).  For any of you interested in building your own reactor in your garage, check out the video below!:
